Celebrating Gord Clark,Longest Serving Member of the MMGCC; 90 Years Young!I went to my first MMGCC meeting around 1996 when they were held at the chicken BBQ joint on Jean Talon near Royalmount. The place has since disappeared with the land now occupied by a high-rise apartment building.Certainly not very impressed with the event as it seemed to be a gathering of perhaps six friends munching away on mediocre chicken. Although the small crowd did see me arrive in my MG, not a soul seemed interested in even saying Hello.One fellow seemed to be trying to spur the group into life by talking about MGs. Turns out that this was Gord Clark, and he took the time to introduce himself as the Chairman of the club. He eyed my MG-B and then proudly showed me his T series MG with the patina earned over many decades of driving. The evening abruptlycame to an end when the rain came and everyone scrambled to erect their tops and head home.Quite the unimpressive introduction to the club!The next meeting was just as exciting as the first with the exception that Gord was hoping to have help organizingsome weekenddrives, but heads ducked quickly as he scanned the group. At this point, my new work assignments took meaway from Montreal for several years.At some point I was searching for some MG parts and found Chris Hollum in Lachine. He was interested in my car and he convinced me to come back to the club. I discovered that Gord had found newenthusiasts who integrated with the older members and brought new life and spark into the group.Gord was still the club leader and he made sure that the club moved forward and thrived. Soulignons les 90 ans de Gord Clark, l'aîné de tout notre membershipC’est autour de 1996 que j’ai participé à ma première réunion du CAMGM, à la rôtisserieBBQ sur Jean-Talon, près de Royalmount. Ce resto n’existe plus, ayant été remplacé par une tour à condos.Je ne fus pas très impressionné par cette rencontre, durant laquelle une demi-douzaine d’amis semblaient se régaler d’un poulet plutôt médiocre. Ils m’ont bien vu arriver avec ma MG, mais aucun n’a daigné me saluer.L’un des amis a tenté de soulever l’enthousiasme en parlant de MGs. Il s’avère que c’était Gord Clark, se présentant alors comme président du Club. Après avoir jeté un regard à ma MG, il m’a fièrement montré sa MG sérieT, dotée d’une patine reflétant plusieurs années de conduite. C’est la pluie qui a mis fin à la rencontre, alors que tous ont monté leur toit et se dirigèrent vers la sortie.Quelle présentation au Club décevante!La réunion suivante fut tout aussi morne sauf pour Gord, tentant d’avoir de l’aide pour organiser des sorties de fins de semaine, mais en vain. C’est à ce moment que mon travail m’appela ailleurs dans le monde, durant plusieurs années.Plus tard, je recherchais des pièces de MGet tombaisur Chris Hollum à Lachine. Il s’intéressa à ma voiture et me convainquit de rejoindre le Club. J’ai alors découvert que Gord avait attiré de nouveaux membres se mêlant aux anciens et apportant avec eux une nouvelle dose d’énergie. Gord était toujours président et s’assura que le Club avance et prospère. Merci Gord, d’avoir fait de ce Club ce qu’il est aujourd’hui. Bill Smyth12

Well he doesn't look a day over 65 !....Our esteemed club elder, Gord Clark, celebrated 90 years on this little blue orb this January, and a small party was held at his local pub, the Rockburn. Space was quite limited, and with friends and family coming in from as far as Beijing, it was quite the significant moment!The pub room was adorned with pseudo washing lines, with the 'hanging washing' being pictures of the man himself at various events, parties, and drives!Daughters Nancy and Sandy led the tributes with their own recollections of being raised by this fine fellow, with fun moments of family outings, and successful deceptions on Gord’spart convincing his daughters of the real existence of the Easter Bunny leaving footprints on their walls, and torn fabric left behind by Santa as he reclimbed he chimney after leaving gifts at Christmas.Apart from the celebration and seeing the joy on the gentleman's face at all the revelry going on, the highlight of the lunchtime gathering was the 'How well do you know Gord?' quiz. Covering 3 rounds of 'did you know’.Is he ascotch or bourbon guy? With threerounds of 10 questions, it was our own ARTHUR who came out on top, with maybe a teeny bit of help from Duncan and Nathalie Fish.On behalf of the club, our heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS to Gord on this super birthday milestone!A few of the fun photos from the party are below!
Le 90e de Gord65 ans et pas un jour de plus pour Gord!L’aîné de notre Club, Gord Clark, a célébré son 90eanniversaire sur terre ce mois-ci, et un petit party eut lieu à son pub local, le Rockburn. Ce fut tout un événement, malgré l’espace retreint et les amis et membres de la famille venant d’aussi loin que Beijing!Plusieurs cordes àlinge étaient tirées à travers le club, le «Linge» étant des photos de l’homme lui-même, lors de diverses circonstances, parties et parcours! Ses filles Nancy et Sandy ont mené l’événement via divers souvenirs de famille avec cet honnête homme, truffé de souvenirs de sorties familiales hilarantes, y compris sa façon de faire croire à ses filles que le Lapin de pâques laissait des traces sur leurs murs, ou que le Père Noel laissait derrière des touffes de vêtements déchirés suite à son passage dans la cheminée avec les cadeaux.Au cœur de ces célébrations, encouragés par le plaisir se lisant sur le visage de Gord, s’est immiscé un jeu questionnaire hilarant durant le diner, intitulé «Connaissez-vous bien Gord?», comprenant trois rondes de 10 questions:boit-il du scotch ou du bourbon? Et ce fut notre ARTHUR national qui est arrivé premier, grâce à l’appui discret de Duncan et de Natalie Fish.Au nom du Club, toutes nos félicitations à Gord pour avoir franchi ce jalon historique!Suivent quelques photosde l’événement ci-bas.
